ECC85 / 6AQ8 — historical Philips reference
The December 1969 Philips ECC85 sheet describes a Noval double triode for RF and AF amplification and self-oscillating mixer service, with a 6.3 V, 435 mA heater. Two sections in one envelope do not establish measured matching. Do not apply generic ECC81/ECC82/ECC83 heater connections or characteristics to this type.

6BM8EH / ECL82 — Electro-Harmonix
Function: Triode and output pentode.
The model-specific sheet lists 770–930 mA heater current and 8 W maximum pentode plate dissipation. Use its own connection diagram and limits; a historical ECL82 heater figure is not automatically the EH model figure. Dissipation is not audio output power.

EF86 / EF806SG — EH-linked manufacturer reference
Function: Small-signal pentode.
The sheet linked from the EH index is headed EF86/EF806SG. It lists 185–215 mA heater current at 6.3 V and 1 W maximum plate dissipation. A shared document header does not establish a selected EF806SG grade, low-noise measurement or test result for an individual EF86 listing.

5U4GBEH — Electro-Harmonix
Function: Full-wave rectifier.
The model sheet uses a 5 V filament reference and lists 2.7–3.4 A filament current. Its maximum average rectified-current figure is 250 mA. Those values do not establish transformer suitability, a universal reservoir-capacitance allowance or automatic GZ34/5AR4 interchangeability.

7591AEH — Electro-Harmonix
Function: Beam-power output valve.
The model sheet lists 0.9–1.24 A heater current with 6.3 V reference operation and a 19 W plate-dissipation limit. Do not replace the stated range with an assumed historical heater current. The base connections differ from common 6L6/EL34/6V6 arrangements; octal fit does not establish a safe replacement.

Function: Beam-power output valve.
The inspected sheet lists 460–530 mA heater current and a 13.2 W plate-dissipation limit. Its curves are operating-characteristic plots, not permission to treat every plotted voltage as a maximum rating. Use the exact model and equipment requirements, rather than generic 6V6-family figures.

E92CC — historical Philips reference
Function: Computer/counter double triode.
The original Philips sheet specifies a seven-pin, common-cathode double triode and a 6.3 V, 400 mA heater. It excludes circuits sensitive to hum, noise or microphonics. The historical special-quality designation is not evidence that an individual valve is a selected low-noise audio tube.

ECL82 — historical Philips reference
Function: Triode and output pentode.
The December 1969 sheet specifies a Noval base and 6.3 V, 780 mA heater. Its triode amplification factor of 70 is a reference characteristic, not the gain of a complete amplifier. ECL82 is not an ECC82 double triode; compare exact model connections and operating conditions.

ECL83 — historical Mullard reference
Function: Triode and output pentode with separate cathodes.
The sheet specifies a 6.3 V, 600 mA heater and B9A base. The 5.4 W pentode plate-dissipation limit is separate from the conditional audio-output examples. Similar socket dimensions do not establish ECL82, ECL86 or PCL83 interchangeability.

ECL86 — historical Telefunken reference
Function: Triode and output pentode with separate cathodes.
The Telefunken reference lists a 6.3 V heater at approximately 700 mA and a 9 W pentode anode-dissipation limit. That heat limit is not guaranteed amplifier output. Heater figures can differ between manufacturer sheets; check the intended model and circuit.

ECC88 / 6DJ8 family — historical Philips reference
Philips’ ECC88 sheet dated 1 January 1958 describes a Noval double triode for television-tuner cascode use, with a 6.3 V, 365 mA heater reference. This document does not identify the original factory of National-branded stock or establish its individual measurements. Compare full ratings before considering E88CC / 6922 substitutions.

12BH7-A — historical RCA reference
RCA’s tentative data of 1 March 1955 describes a medium-amplification-factor twin triode with a Noval base. Heater configurations are 12.6 V at 0.3 A in series or 6.3 V at 0.6 A in parallel. The A suffix must not be inferred for an item labelled only 12BH7; this reference does not certify the factory or condition of another branded valve.

6J6 — historical General Electric reference
GE sheet ET-T892, code 7-54, documents a seven-pin RF twin triode with a shared cathode. Its 6J6 heater reference is 6.3 V, 0.45 A. The same sheet covers 5J6 and 19J6 with different heater ratings; do not transfer their heater figures to the 6J6. The document is not proof of the factory behind Haltron or RCA ATES-labelled stock.

A1834 — historical Marconi reference
Marconi’s April 1953 A1834 sheet describes an indirectly heated octal double triode. Heater requirements are 6.3 V, 2.5 A; per-section anode limits include 250 V and 13 W. Those limits are not audio output power or operating instructions. Consult the separate DC-amplifier and scanning-booster conditions rather than combining ratings.

6080 — historical maintenance reference
The December 1968 maintenance sheet describes an octal double triode for series regulation, servo and booster applications, with nominal heater requirements of 6.3 V, 2.5 A. It distinguishes nominal characteristics, initial spread and limiting conditions. It does not establish the manufacturer, condition or certification of the Glass Audio listing; adding section currents does not by itself determine a safe output current.

How to use a valve datasheet
Begin with the exact designation and suffix, then check the pin diagram's viewing direction, heater requirements and maximum ratings. Typical characteristics apply at stated operating conditions. A maximum anode-voltage rating is not a recommended operating point, and mu is not the voltage gain of a complete amplifier.

Original summaries and document rights
The explanatory summaries on this page are original Glass Audio content. The source PDFs belong to their respective rights holders. Public access to a document does not establish permission to republish it. No new PDF copies have been uploaded for this library. Manufacturer data and historical specifications must be kept separate; a later document is not evidence for every older valve bearing a related name.
Does a datasheet prove a valve is tested or matched?
No. It describes a model, not the condition of a particular specimen. Glass Audio tests valves before sale; not every item in stock has already been tested. Ask about the individual item and confirm any matching, low-noise or measurement requirement before ordering.
Compatibility and electrical safety
Similar bases and related designations do not establish safe interchangeability. Follow the equipment manufacturer's approved replacement information. Heater load, socket connections, bias, screen-grid conditions and physical clearances can all matter. High-voltage valve amplifiers can retain dangerous stored energy after unplugging. Internal measurements, repairs and bias adjustments require a qualified technician.
Ask Glass Audio about a valve or international postage quote. Provide the amplifier model, valve position, exact markings and required quantity.
